Practice Areas

Experienced, Efficient & Effective Trial Lawyers.

At Callanan Law Firm, LLP, we maintain an active litigation practice in throughout the state and federal courts in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Maine. We have served as both national and local counsel in matters throughout the United States. Our experience and approach give our clients confidence, knowing that their case is in the capable hands of proven trial lawyers ready to try the case to verdict if necessary.

Business & Commercial Litigation

Business disputes arise in countless ways. Regardless of the situation, subject matter, or stakes, these disputes almost always involve allegations of breach of contract and equitable remedies, including promissory unjust enrichment, quantum meruit, unclean hands, or promissory estoppel.  As a result, we have developed vast experience prosecuting and defending breach of contract claims and have successfully handled more specialized claims involving breach of fiduciary duty, unfair and deceptive trade practices in violation of Chapter 93A, misappropriation of trademark, defamation, and fraud.

We recognize that business litigation must further the best interest of the business involved. Our subject matter expertise allows us to educate clients about the risks and benefits of litigation. We tailor our approach to efficiently achieve our client’s goals, whether we are prosecuting or defending commercial claims. Our work-flow efficiency and unlevered business model provide clients economic advantages by reducing the burn rate inherent in commercial litigation.

Employment Law & Litigation

The employment relationship is highly regulated one that protects employee rights with powerful tools including rights to reinstatement, double and triple damage and attorney fee awards. We have handled every conceivable claim between employer and employee and have tried cases to verdict before federal and state court juries and appeared before the EEOC and MCAD. These matters routinely involve claims of discrimination, harassment, entitlement to sick leave and family and medical leave, retaliation, wrongful termination, violation of wage and hour laws, violation of non-compete and non-solicitation agreements, misclassification of independent contractors. Kevin Callanan has decades of experience in traditional management side labor law and National Labor Relations Board proceedings.

Employment disputes are factually complex. Our jury trial experience provides us with the skills necessary to distill coherent, persuasive narratives from messy fact patterns. These same skills that equip us to try an employment case to verdict also allow us to effectively counsel clients to best avoid liability in the ordinary course of business. In addition to defending claims and lawsuits, we regularly advise clients dealing with employment questions, educate them about proper practices, and update them on evolving requirements.

Personal Injury Litigation

No business is immune from general liability risks and negligence claims. We routinely handle personal injury and property damage claims from minor to catastrophic. We enjoy years of experience handling and trying premise liability claims, product liability claims, workplace accidents and claims of ordinary negligence in myriad circumstances. We defend product manufacturers in a range of industries including automotive products, child safety products, industrial machinery, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, sports and recreation equipment, and tools. We manage litigation on behalf of major retailers and serve insurers as defense counsel and monitoring counsel on high-exposure claims.

Real Estate Litigation

We handle a variety of property disputes on behalf of lenders and homeowners. These matters range from curative title actions, to easement or boundary disputes, to allegations of breach of contract and violation of Chapter 93A in real estate transactions. We have also represented commercial and residential landlords and tenants in lease disputes, including summary process evictions.
